The Susan Rose is a secret reef, sunk with no public notice or announcement. It will no doubt be used for another "period of successional development and monitoring" like the Carrabassett since 2024 and the New England Coast since 2023. Here is the NJDEP contact form if you would like to inquire about the progress of these studies:

The GPS numbers were given to me by a reader, they have never been officially released.

Update:

I have no update. After over two years since the unannounced sinking, the numbers have never been released, and likely never will be. A fine use of public funds and donations.

The Susan Rose ran aground at Point Pleasant just before 5AM Friday November 17, 2023. It sank near the inlet almost immediately after salvage.
Raised from the bottom November 2024

Pipefish

Syngnathus fuscus

Size: to 12"

Habitat: Weedy protected shore waters.

Notes:

The Northern Pipefish is the only common inshore species in our area. Pipefishes are closely related to Seahorses and found in the same kind of habitats. They lack the seahorse's prehensile tail but are much better swimmers than their coiled cousins.
