Lockwood Boat Works

Not plotted on the chart is the Lockwood, a 40' sailboat sunk circa 1991 in the southern part of the reef. The unfinished ferro-cement hull was donated and named after the Lockwood Marina and Boat Works in South Amboy. The Lockwood has probably broken up and sunk into the sand, as recent efforts to locate it have not been successful. It may also have been crushed under a rock drop.

Raccoon

Procyon lotor
( literally: pre-dog washer )

Size: 3 ft ( total length )

Habitat: around water

Notes: Raccoons are not really aquatic. They like to live around water so that they can dunk their food. Maybe they're washing it, or maybe they just like wet food, but they will use any water that is handy - a birdbath, swimming pool, or dog dish will do in a pinch.
