Good Times reef — Making history - the Good Times was the first vessel sunk by the New Jersey Division of Fish & Wildlife's (then) new Artificial Reef Program.

The engine was removed and the wooden hull was filled with concrete and tire units. The Good Times broke apart after only a few weeks on the bottom and is now completely disintegrated. The program has had enormous successes since this first small beginning.

Good Times and Queen Mary are plotted from 1989 LORAN numbers. Although the TDs are slightly different, the resulting conversions are identical. It doesn't matter, neither one is still there.

Tube Worms

Tube Worms

Tube worms live with their bodies buried in tubes that they construct in the soft bottom substrate. Fan Worms ( Sabella spp. and others, 1/8" to 8", right ) are among the most popular sights on tropical coral reefs. Few people realize that they are present in temperate waters as well.

Fan Worms, or "Featherdusters", have a frill of tentacles on the head with which they feed on plankton, and occasionally larger items. Food particles are trapped in sticky mucous and carried down into the mouth. Some Fan Worms have eyespots along the tentacles.
